Day 01 Kuching
Tour of Kuching city in the afternoon at 2:00pm. Highlight of the tour includes Ford Margherita from the waterfront, across the Sarawak River (no public admission), Tua Pek Kong Temple - the oldest temple in Kuching and the Sarawak Museum – reputed to be the best museum in Southeast Asia. Prepare for early morning departure tomorrow with overnight bag. (Excess baggage not required will be left at hotel)
Day 2, Kuching- Semmenggok Orang Utan – Long House
Early morning departure after breakfast to the Semonggok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Center that houses the Orang Utan, honey bears and other protected species of wildlife, rescued from captivity. These Orang Utan are then carefully nurtured and rehabilitated into their natural surroundings. If the timing is right, you may be able to be there during feedling time for the Orang Utans.
Depart for an overnight stay at a guest house located beside an Iban longhouse. On arrival, the natives of the Iban tribe in the longhouse will welcome you. Ibans make up the largest group of natives in Sarawak and were once considered the head-hunters of Borneo. Today, they are farmers and amongst the friendliest people. You are free to mingle with the longhouse dwellers and even try your hand with their daily chores or enjoy the serenity of the rainforest or go for a swim in the river.
After dinner, meet the Headman of the longhouse and be entertained by traditional dances. Try the rice wine and participate in the graceful Warrior’s Dance, the Ngajat. Overnight in a guesthouse (consist of individual beds with mosquito netting for each bed. There are proper showers and toilet facilities.)
Day 3, Iban Long House - Kuching
Wake up to the crowing of the roosters. After breakfast, we will see a demonstration of the various pastime games played by the natives such as cock-fighting and blow-pipe competitions. Departure to Kuching with lunch along the way.
Day 4, Kuching – Mulu National Park
Early breakfast and transfer to airport for flights from Kuching to Mulu.
Mulu National Park is home to the largest cave passage in the world and a paradise for naturalist is known to have 1500 species of flowering plants, 170 species of wild orchids and 67 species of animals (sightings of animals not guaranteed). Upon arrival at the Mulu Airport, depart by boat to explore the Wind and Clearwater cave with a stop at the Penan Village. You may swim at the Clearwater spring near the Clear water cave.
After lunch, depart by boat to Park Head Quarters and then take the 3 kilometer hike on an elevated wooden pathway over peat swamp forest to explore Deer and Lang's Caves. Night safaris are available.
Day 5, Mulu- Kota Kinabalu
Explore the jungle up high along the Mulu canopy walkway amongst the towering trees. Transfer to the Mulu airport for your onward flight to Kota Kinabalu. Round trip airport transfers are included.
Day 6, Mulu – Kota Kinabalu
After breakfast depart for a full day excursion to Kinabalu National Park. Kinabalu National Park is a botanist’s paradise with over a thousand species of orchids, numerous Rhododendrons and pitcher plants as well as a large species of birds. A park guide will take you on a nature walk this morning. You will also visit the exhibition hall and watch a slide presentation on Kinabalu National Park and Mount Kinabalu. Return to Kota Kinabalu.
Day 7, Kota Kinabalu
Breakfast. Proceed for a morning city tour. Visit the highest point for a panoramic view of Kota Kinabalu,- The Signal Hill, Likas Bay, the exterior of Sabah Foundation building, a Buddhist Temple, StateMuseum and the State Mosque. Excess baggage will be left in BeverlyHotel, please pack what you need to 2 days for the Danum Valley.
Day 8, Kota Kinabalu – Danum Valley
A short flight to Lahad Datu is followed by a 2.5 hour or so drive to Borneo Rainforest Lodge. Along the way, wildlife may be spotted. On arrival, after a short briefing and lunch proceed for guided nature tour by one of the lodge's one own experienced naturalists. After dinner a Nature slide presentation on wildlife, ecology & activities in Danum Valley will be presented. Night drive in an open jeep with a spotlight in search of wildlife is also an option.
Day 09, Borneo Rain Forest Lodge
Early risers can join a bird watching trip at 06:30am. Return to jungle lodge for breakfast. There will be hikes lead by experienced naturalists through the undisturbed riverine and lowland dipterocarp forest. Visit ancient Dusun Burial site and trek up to View Point. Return to lodge for lunch. Extended hike to look for orang utans, birds & other wildlife along nature trails in the afternoon will be offered. After dinner an optional night guided walk to see wildlife or drive in an open jeep to search for more wildlife. Return to the jungle and overnight.
Day 10, Danum Valley- Kota Kinabalu
At 6:30am, an early jungle walk and bird watching before breakfast. Brief visit to the waterfalls, pools and hike upstream. After lunch, depart for Lahad Datu. Transfer to airport for flight to Kota Kinabalu. On arrival Kota Kinabalu transfer to hotel.
