Avia Travel was established in 1987 by VIA (formerly Volunteers in Asia/Trans-Pacific Exchange), a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing understanding between the United States and Asia. Since 1963, VIA has provided Americans with an opportunity to work and live within an Asian culture while meeting the needs of Asian host institutions. Avia Travel began as VIA's travel desk, located in its Stanford University offices; in time, it moved off-campus to better serve students, faculty and the general public seeking creative, affordable fares. Its professional staff quickly earned the praise of clients and travel writers worldwide. Avia Travel is now independent of VIA, but continues to support VIA's mission in spirit; we still serve a wide range of educational and non-profit organizations.
